Haines-Skagway: Nearing the Alaska Finale!

I can’t believe our 2 months in Alaska are already nearing the end. I don’t want to go! We’ve definitely missed a few places, so we MUST come back…

The Haines Distillery. The breweries & distilleries we have definitely conquered!

We spent this past week in Haines then took the car ferry to Skagway yesterday. Both are cute coastal towns, although Skagway is cruise ship central, so not really my cup of tea hanging out with thousands of tourists! It gets nice & quiet in the mornings and evenings though.

The drive into Haines is spectacular – almost as good as the drive into Valdez, which still wins 1st prize for most scenic drive in AK. We hit Haines during the annual S.E. Alaska State Fair which was fun. Brought me back to the Chelsea Fair every August in Michigan growing up!

We’re now starting to plan our trip through BC, Canada back down the Cassiar Hwy, with a final stop in Hyder AK before heading to Vancouver Island via ferry from Prince Rupert. At least we might see some summer in the lower 48. It’s been cold & rainy in AK!

We've seen more bears in Canada than AK, like this guy: Griz!

P.S. Most of you travel like real humans with amenities like showers & bathrooms, but just for the record, if you take an Alaska Maritime Hwy Ferry, they have awesome free showers! 🙂

Love and miss you all. Thank you for humoring me and reading these articles. It’s been therapeutic for me to write them!
