Okay, for anyone reading this article who has never been to Valley of Fire / #valleyoffire (about an hour NE of Vegas), put it on your “must do” list, now! This is seriously the prettiest campground & scenery I have ever seen – miles and miles of gorgeous red rocks that dance with the sun as it moves across the sky, and you can climb to your heart’s content (no roped off “do not climb on the rocks” signs anywhere – how refreshing!)
So far we’ve seen dozens of big horned sheep (males, females, kids) and even a rare native desert tortoise. There is life in them thar hills everywhere! You never know what treasure will cross your path, so keep your eyes open. Kids will love this place. Bring the whole family and chill out for a few days! Tell them I sent you… 🙂
So, we’re 5 days into this crazy adventure, and I can already tell you my favorite things that I could not live without. They are…
1.) Feather down booties (#WesternMountaineering) – I’ve worn these on a frozen fjord in Norway in Feb and so far every night by the campfire and my feet are toasty warm all the time! Best $40 I ever spent. Get them!
2.) #lucilights solar lights – seriously the coolest invention in history. They fold up like a pancake, charge easily and produce awesome light for the camp. Even in multicolor for a full dance floor effect!
3.) #ursaminor pop-up tent for the #jeep – friggin awesome. I’ve never slept better in my life!
4.) #columbia hiking pants and bug/SPF shirts. They are comfortable, durable, washable, and they will be my life for the next 6 months. Thank you Columbia!
5) Any meals where you just add water (#quakeroats breakfast packs, #starbucks via packs, etc). So easy and so good!
More to come. Tomorrow we head to Hoover Dam and then on to the Grand Canyon April 7-14.
The best part about this kind of travel? I have no idea what day it is or what time it is, and I don’t give a damn…who knew?! xoxo
